A. Grid and Area References
Grid and area references are used to
determine the location of an object on a map
1. Area Reference
An Area reference is a
4 digit number
Area reference will tell you a box inwhich the
point or location is in
An example is below:
2. Grid Reference
A grid reference is a
6 digit number
The grid reference will tell you
the exact location of a point or place
It is calculated by
dividing the area reference box into 10 sections
You add another number to the end of the 2,
2 number sections
eg.
In the above picture, the top point of the triangle would be at 255668
Objects that lye on the line (the star in the middle) would be at 250650
